Congratulations to Harvard Law School on Jessup 2022 win!

Murray Plumb & Murray would like to extend its congratulations to the Harvard Law School Jessup team, including their coach Peter Murray, who took the title of World Champions for the 2022 competition last week. The win is a first for Harvard, and this year’s team outperformed over 500 other teams worldwide.

According to the International Law Students Association, “Harvard University (USA) defeated Singapore Management University (Singapore) to win the Jessup Cup at the 2022 White & Case International Rounds. Arguing before H.E. Judge Georg Nolte, H.E. Judge Hilary Charlesworth, and H.E. Judge Bruno Simma, both teams impressed the judges with their command of the facts and the law and their ability to analyze the complex issues involved in the case. In end, the judges were swayed by the respondents’ arguments.”

Marta Canneri was awarded the award for the Best Oralist in the Final Round and the team was awarded the 7th best memorial in the world. The team was coached in part by Peter Murray, one of the founding partners of Murray Plumb & Murray, who uses the competition as subject matter for his Harvard Law School workshop “Oral Argument before International Tribunals.”

Peter congratulated the team, saying, “The team represents a remarkable combination of talent, hard work, and cohesiveness. Their mastery of both the international legal doctrine and the techniques of oral presentation rendered them unstoppable.”
