A Maine native, Sage brings a rich entrepreneurial and business background to his legal approach on behalf of clients. He joined Murray Plumb & Murray in 2017 following his graduation from law school and a summer spent as a Clerk with the firm in 2016. His legal work is informed by more than 15 years of business experience as an entrepreneur and a consultant in New York City and Maine, as well as his educational achievements.
Before joining the firm, Sage was a Principal at Fire Lane 17, a Maine company that offered long-term consulting services to select entrepreneurs, investors, and established small businesses. In that role, he provided a variety of services including financial oversight, emergency management, strategic planning, social mission implementation, management coaching and capacity building, as well as due diligence for angel investors as part of their exploration of investment opportunities. Sage has worked with companies in a variety of industries, including food and beverage, agriculture, residential construction, energy efficiency, luxury home furnishings, alternative energy, marketing services, and software development.
Sage established his entrepreneurial credentials while living and working in New York City where, he and a partner founded Theobroma LLC that, in a joint venture, founded Chocolat Michel Cluizel to operate as the flagship US retailer for multigenerational bean-to-bonbon chocolatier Michel Cluizel of France. Prior to that entrepreneurial venture, Friedman worked as an Associate at a New York boutique investment firm specializing in environmentally sustainable business practices and social responsibility. Originally from the rural Maine village of Weld, Sage now resides in Portland.
