Cape Elizabeth Mock Trial Team to Once Again Represent Maine in National Tournament

Murray Plumb & Murray Partner Richard O’Meara and the Cape Elizabeth High School Mock Trial Team will once again have the chance to compete for a national title after they won an impressive eighth consecutive state championship this past December.

O’Meara, who serves as lead attorney coach, and the team will represent Maine in the 2018 National High School Mock Trial Championship, which will be held May 10-12 in Reno, Nevada. With plenty of optimism heading into the tournament, O’Meara and students will look to improve upon their eighth place finish from a year ago.

During the competition, students assume the roles of both lawyers and witnesses in a mock criminal or civil case. They are asked to try the case multiple times on both sides while being scored by judges for their knowledge of the rules and their presentation skills.

The team will learn which case they will be trying on April 1. From there, they will buckle down for the next five weeks to prepare to compete for the top spot in the nation.

All of us at Murray Plumb & Murray wish Richard and the team best of luck at nationals!
