Maria Fox alongside family scene representing Maine paid family and medical leave program

Murray Plumb & Murray is pleased to announce that Maria Fox has been reappointed to the Maine Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) Benefits Authority, where she continues to serve as Chair of the Authority.

The PFML Authority is a 15‑member body created to advise the Maine Department of Labor on the administration and implementation of Maine’s paid family and medical leave program. Members are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Maine Senate, bringing together expertise from employers, employees, and public agencies.

Maria was originally appointed to the Authority in 2024 to fill the seat reserved for a member with expertise in employment law representing employee interests. She has helped guide its work as Maine prepares to fully implement the program, which will begin providing benefits to eligible workers on May 1, 2026.

The program will offer up to 12 weeks of paid leave for qualifying life events such as caring for a new child, addressing a serious health condition, or caring for a family member. Pre-applications for leaves starting on or after May 1st will open in April, and more information about Maine’s Paid Family and Medical Leave program can be found on the Maine Department of Labor website.

Maria has practiced employment law for over 25 years, representing both employees and employers across a wide range of industries. Her reappointment reflects her ongoing commitment to public service and her leadership in helping shape one of Maine’s most significant recent workforce initiatives.
