Education Law

Murray Plumb & Murray provides advocacy for students at all levels of the educational system, from preschoolers through graduate and professional students. In this work, we aim to the level of the playing field for students when disputes arise with public school districts, the state department of education, private academies, or colleges and universities.

We have in-depth experience in providing legal advocacy for students with disabilities in all state and federal forums. We have successfully helped a wide range of clients understand and pursue claims arising under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (“IDEA”), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”), Maine’s special education statutes and regulations, and the Maine Human Rights Act. We can provide everything from advocacy at local school meetings through representation in the federal courts on issues of national importance. We also frequently become involved representing students subjected to discipline by educational institutions, including suspensions, expulsions, dismissals, and Title IX investigations.
