Murray Plumb & Murray’s own apple historian Sean Turley was recently featured in a GBH “Under the Radar” segment about how apples became deeply tied to American identity and tradition.
Sean discussed Maine’s remarkable apple history and the ongoing work of identifying and preserving historic varieties throughout the region. He also shared how historical records and early pomology research help modern apple historians trace rare and heirloom varieties to specific farms and towns across Maine.
In addition to his legal practice, Sean is widely recognized for his work as an apple forager, historian and author of Practical Pomology: A Field Guide. His work has helped document and preserve New England’s rich apple heritage while supporting a growing appreciation for heirloom fruit and traditional cider culture.
The GBH segment also featured Amy Traverso, senior food editor at Yankee Magazine and co-host of Weekends with Yankee.
